Groundwater Pollution Threats of Solid Waste Disposal

This book was motivated largely by the dearth of information regarding interactions between solid waste disposal sites and underlying groundwater resources in the urban areas of less-developed countries. This gap is prominent in Nigeria's metropolitan centres such as Kano, despite research efforts being made in other parts of the world. Accordingly, the book strives to achieve better understanding of these problems in the study area and beyond. It is a resource material for enlightening the policy and decision-makers, as well as the public, towards better understanding of environmental management and the significance of achieving the overall goal of sustainable development; especially in relation to groundwater quality management.

Dr. Ahmed Fate Ali is a Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Management of Bayero University Kano in Nigeria, and a Visiting Lecturer with the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering; MSc in Environmental Science, and BSc (Hons) in Industrial Chemistry.
