Navigation for visually impaired people is very difficult. A guide aid for movement is required by them that can enhance their ability to move .The main cause for the difficulty in movement are the obstacles and ditches that may come in the way . LV-max sonar sensors have been used for the purpose of obstacle and ditch detection. Range of one sensor for detecting obstacle is 6 feet in length and 2 feet in width, three sensors are used covering the width to 6 feet. Output mechanism consists of text- to -speech IC and speak jet IC, TTL 256 text -to- speech IC converts the English text to speak jet allophone codes which are sent to the speak jet via serial port. Speak jet consists of mathematical sound architecture in combination with the control of the pitch, rate, bend and volume parameters hence the user has the ability to produce unlimited phrases and sound effects with thousands of variations. The user (blind) will hear the sounds according to location of obstacle through an ear piece such as move left , move right etc. 80c51 microcontroller is use
