Guidelines to Overcome Cultural Barrier in China

After China opened the country, it has become one of the most powerful countries of the world which generates great opportunities for doing business leading to increasing investments including new projects from both eastern and western countries. In the field of project management, it is during the implementation phase when the project will reach its highest point of importance since all plans formulated in previous phases will be transformed into real actions. However, due to cultural difference between foreigners and Chinese whose traditional culture has more than 5,000 years of history, the conflicts in the working collaboration during project implementation can be generated. To implement the project in China, it is necessary for foreigners to understand uniqueness of Chinese culture in order to avoid conflicts during implementation which can lead to the failure of project. Therefore, this book provides practical guidelines from the real experience that could help non-Chinese, especially foreign project managers, to overcome the cultural barrier, focusing on Power Distance dimension, in order to achieve successful project implementation in China.
