In particle physics, a hadron is a particle made of quarks held together by the strong force (similarly to how molecules are held together by the electromagnetic force). There are two known types of hadrons: mesons (made of one quark and one antiquark) and baryons (made of three quarks). Other combinations may exist, such as tetraquarks (or, more generally, exotic mesons) and pentaquarks (exotic baryons), but no evidence conclusively suggests their existence as of 2009.
