Terence Lovat is an Emeritus Professor at The University of Newcastle, Australia, whose specialities are in Theology and Education. He began his academic career at Australian Catholic University in the 1970s and has been at Newcastle since 1985. He is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at The University of Johannesburg, South Africa, Research Fellow at Oxford University, UK, and an Adjunct Professor at Royal Roads University, Canada. His speciality in Theology is Islamic Philosophy and History, and his speciality in Education is Religious and Moral Education, focussing especially on Islamic Education. He has managed millions of dollars of funded research and authored multiple books, chapters, and refereed journal articles across both fields. He has authored and/or edited over 30 academic books (including with Springer, Routledge, Peter Lang, Nelson, Sense, Waxmann, etc.) and has over 200 refereed book chapters and journal articles. He has also served as editor-in-chief of two international journals, including an Elsevier journal with over 2000 submissions annually. He is also on multiple editorial and international advisory boards, having reviewed hundreds of articles and special issue and book proposals. Professor Lovat has supervised over 50 and examined over 80 doctoral theses in Australia and overseas. He received a Springer Star Peer Reviewer award in 2017 and, in 2024, was ranked by GPS Scholar in the top 0.05% of scholars worldwide.
