Handbook of Learning English for Academic Purposes

This handbook is designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students using English as a second or foreign language in research and academic contexts. It guides students in gradually enhancing their English communication skills to an upper-intermediate or advanced level. It also introduces relevant AI-powered academic English tools and integrates argumentative writing and critical thinking skills to build students' academic English proficiency. After completing this handbook, students are expected to achieve the following goals: critically evaluate research-based and academic arguments, as well as academic papers in their fields; understand the content of English academic lectures; use AI-powered academic writing tools for paper writing; consider readers' expectations in academic writing; identify, locate, cite, and evaluate various academic resources; use AI-powered reading tools to analyze and interpret English academic texts more proficiently; and confidently present and communicate their academic achievements at international conferences.
