Harmodius and Aristogeiton, both d. 514 BC, were lovers in ancient Athens. The two lovers became known as the Tyrannicides after they killed the Peisistratid tyrant Hipparchus. After their death they were fashioned into a potent symbol of Athenian democracy, though their motivation in the assasination was initially personal revenge.
