Diabetes mellitus is an emerging issue in the world especially in Bangladesh which is very harmful for health as well as long life. Healthy life plays an important role in the development of any nation but diabetes is one of the major impediments. In Bangladesh, the number of diabetic patients is increasing day by day. Along with various aspects of population problem, an important issue is health status and socio-economic conditions of diabetic patients in this country. This study focuses some important causes of health status and socio-economic conditions of diabetic patients based on Bangladeshi people and recommend some policy which plays an important role for further advanced research and increasing the peoples' consciousness level. Nevertheless, it would be very helpful for policy makers, program designers/planners to design or redesign program(s) or existing program(s) considering the identified risk factors and hence, reducing this hazard so that the country may achieve better health.

Md. Obaidur Rahman obtained B. Sc. (Hons) degree securing first class (2nd position) and M. Sc. (Thesis) degree from the Dept. of Population Science and Human Resource Development, University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. He had published a number of research articles in various international journals.
