This book reveals that 1969-74 was a crucial period for the special relationship. The Heath Government attempted to reverse Britain's decline as a great power by forging an American-European special relationship out of the Anglo-American relationship. Simultaneously the Nixon Administration tried to recoup the global position of the United States.

NIKLAS H. ROSSBACH holds a PhD in History and Civilization from the European University Institute. He has studied at: Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies in Bologna, SAIS; the Stockholm School of Economics; Uppsala University, and been an exchange PhD student at the Department of International History at the London School of Economics, the LSE. His research is primarily focused on twentieth century history, especially the Anglo-American special relationship. He lives and works in Stockholm.
