Hepatoprotective activity of PUERARIA TUBEROSA LINN. in rats

Pueraria tuberosaLinn, commonly known as kudzu, is a climber with woody tuberculated stem. Pueraria tuberosaLinn.DC (Fabaceae) is a plant widely used in traditional Indian medicine as tonic, aphrodisiac, antirheumatic, diuretic, and galactagogue. . Pueraria tuberosaLinn. is an important constituent of Ayurvedic medicines including Chyawanprash, a popular tonic. Pueraria tuberosaLinn. is also reported to possess numerous activities like nootropic, antioxidant, and antifertility, sweet, refrigerant, emollient, laxative, aphrodisiac, emetic, cardio tonic, and expectorant, febrifuge and used for the treatment of various ailments.Tubers are rich in isoflavanoids such as puerarin, daidzein, genisteinandgenistinofwhich puerarin is present in the greatest amount. Due to presence of treating ailments in tubers of plant and effective phytoconstituents there is scope of detoxification of heavy metals and other toxic substances in human body.
