Hepatoprotective Evaluation of Fennel and Thyme Oil

Liver is one of the vital organ endow with several important homeostatic responsibilities in the body. One of the primary functions of the liver is to aid in the metabolism of ingested substances including food, dietary supplements, fluids and majority of medicines. The complications arise with liver affects the entire system of the body. Thus there is an essential need of the medications for the treatment of liver diseases devoid of other adverse effects. Herbal Therapy is one of the best therapies used in medical practices since ancient times with lesser unfavorable effects. In the western world, as the people are becoming aware of the potency and side effect of synthetic drugs, there is an increasing interest in the natural product remedies. Today estimate that about 80% of people in developing countries still relays on traditional medicine based largely on species of plants and animals for their primary health care. Thus these two herbs Foeniculum vulgare and Thymus Vulgaris were selected for the evaluation of hepatoprotective activity against antitubercular drug induced hepatotoxicity in rats.
