HERBS IN CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS

Medicinal plants and herbs have attracted a lot of attention for the past few years. The market for drugs extracted from these plants and made from herbal extracts has seen a significant rise. India is known for its rich stock of medicinal plants. Among many, some herbs are rich in phytochemical content. These phytochemicals are useful in generating phytomedicines which have effects on the human body. Use of the herbal medicines continues to expand rapidly across the world and slowly people started using herbal products or herbal medicines for their health care settings. These herbal extracts have prompted the dentists too to use for reducing inflammation, as antiseptics, antioxidants, antimicrobials, thereby improving immunity, antifungals, antibacterials, antivirals and analgesics. With advancements in science and scientific procedures it is now known that plants have potential curative action for oral diseases such as dental caries. They have been popularly used as analgesic, anti-inflammatory, sedatives, and antibiotics.This book focuses on various natural drugs and products as well as their therapeutic applications when used as phytomedicine.
