High Performance Mortar with Carbon Fibers

Carbon fiber reinforced mortar (CFRM) is a cement- based composite that provides manifold benefits including high flexural strength and excellent impact resistance, as compared to ordinary cement mortar. It can be produced by mixing short carbon fibers with plain cement mortar in the presence of high-range water reducer and silica fume. This book gives readers a thorough understanding of the key aspects of CFRM. The performance of CFRM has been discussed in this book with respect to workability, unit weight, air content, strength, impact resistance, toughness, durability, and cost- effectiveness. While evaluating the performance, the effects of carbon fiber on the key fresh and hardened properties of CFRM have been highlighted. In addition, this book provides an approach to determine the performance to cost ratios, which can be used as a measure for the optimization of CFRM mix. This book is particularly suitable for researchers and engineers who deal with carbon fiber reinforced cement composites. It will also be a useful reference for all professionals working with cement-based materials.
