Higher Education in India Emerging Challenges

Higher education in India witnessed many shifts during the last six decades. The Mudaliar Commission, S.Radha krishanan Commission, Kothari Commission and the recent knowledge Commission, have reflected on earlier paradigms, perspectives and priorities. In the era of globalization, the challenges of higher education have become more pronounced and accentuated. India, taking the lead as an emerging world economy has to orient its policies, strategies and perspectives' to the global challenges in terms of quality. At the same time it has to be sensitive to its local, grassroots realities of equity and inclusive character .This volume also examines the conclusions in the context of changing socio-economic and political realities and growing optimism. It analyses three conceptual issues purpose, diversity and competition and also examines the status and prospects of Indian higher education in terms of three key cross-cutting themes access and expansion, equity and inclusion and quality and excellence.
