Hip hop as a legacy of the Black Atlantic
Details
The identification of new developments of racial dynamics in different and more diverse dimensions and manifestations of social life is the starting point for this research. Part of these developments can be found in artistic and cultural manifestations, visualising the importance and centrality that a given manifestation may have in the debate on ethnic-racial relations. In this sense, this book aims to: 1)Understand what is the centrality and historical relevance occupied by rap and hip hop in the academic debate around the African diaspora; 2) Observe how research on rap and hip hop evokes and articulates the concept of identity; 3) Understand, through the selected academic production, how the process of disqualification and racialisation experienced by the subjects of the Hip Hop and Rap movement occurs, who see their experiences and their artistic manifestations being stereotyped, stigmatised and marginalised.
