She was built by Cammell Laird and launched on April 9, 1943. So far she has been the only ship of the Royal Navy to bear the name Stoic. She survived the Second World War, spending most of it with the Eastern Fleet, where she sank six small Japanese sailing vessels, the Japanese transport ship Kainan Maru, a landing craft, the Japanese fishing vessel Nanyo Maru No.55, the Japanese auxiliary gunboat Shoei Maru and a Japanese coaster. Stoic also bombarded warehouses and fuel tanks at Jangka Island.
