Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. HMS Heron was a 16-gun sloop of the Royal Navy, purchased in 1804. She was converted into a bomb vessel in 1810 and renamed HMS Volcano. HMS Heron was originally the merchant vessel Jason, purchased in June 1804. She was converted into a bomb vessel in 1810 and renamed HMS Volcano. Under this name she went on to be one of the bomb vessels involved in the attack on Fort McHenry in the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. In this action she was commanded by David Price. Along with her were other bomb vessels and a Congreve rocket vessel, HMS Erebus. The entire fleet consisted of 19 vessels, and launched over 1500 bombs during the attack, killing four Americans and wounding 24.
