Details

Urbanization in Africa exceeds 5% per year. This increasing trend in urbanization is creating a massive pressure on the socio-economic and political agenda of the developing world. Water supply issues are at the forefront of the services that must be provided to the ever increasing urban dwellers. Provision of adequate and potable water to the multitudes of urban dwellers has become a policy challenge to many governments of developing countries. In water supply service, there is a trend towards a visible paradigm shift from supply-driven to demand-driven approach to drinking water supply. For appropriate water supply projection, a detailed empirical work on the physical and socio-economic factors affecting per capita water consumption is desirable. Therefore, this book addresses this important issue and its urgency.
