Housing Typology in Erbil City Focusing on The City Development

This research presents the housing typology in Erbil city based on indoor space distribution that has been carry out through the transformation of the vernacular architecture, comparing houses built in different periods in order to trace the housing space design typologies of habitations. The analysis includes evaluating and analyzing housing typology and archeological factors that may have influenced the house design and space distribution. This research establishes relationship between transformation behavior and household characteristics. The study show that a number of internal and external factors such as economical, socio-culture and environmental that influenced the house plan that changes with modernization as well as foreign cultures that has an impact on socio-cultural pattern of the region through the times, all those changes had impact on their house design. Evaluations of space distribution and social analyses were carried out by implementing a Structural permeability diagram to show the change of spaces depth and the privacy pattern in house types. The results of this research could be applied to develop a new housing plan.
