How Safe are the Indoor Environments of University Libraries?

It is no longer a new phenomenon that resistance to antimicrobials by microorganisms is worrisome worldwide. The occurrence is more bothersome when drug resistant microorganisms of public health importance are copiously found in places like university libraries where they constantly have contact effortlessly with man and thus threatens the ability to treat infections. Apart from the overwhelming defeat these bacteria appear to have rendered to most drugs, another devastating effect is their ease in transmission. As scientists are relentlessly searching and discovering more 'potent drugs' against antimicrobial resistance, microorganisms seem to have self-engineered themselves to survive, tolerate the presence of these 'potent drugs'. What is the present status of antibiotic resistance in developing nations like Nigeria especially in unsuspecting places like University libraries? "How safe are the Indoor Environments of University Libraries?" reveals an incredibly high antibiotic resistance of bacteria possessing several virulence factors, isolated from University of Ibadan libraries. The virulence of these microorganisms in perhaps the largest library in Nigeria have been described.
