José Miguel Lemus nasceu na Cidade do México. Estudou jornalismo na UNAM. É professor associado na Universidade de Creighton, em Omaha. Tem um doutoramento em literatura pela Universidade de Illinois. Praticou a aprendizagem de serviços na UIUC, UNL e Creighton.
