Human Viruses in Water: Assessment and Control
Details
Several etiologic agents are transmitted through water, and their incidences have potential adverse effects on public health. Waterborne transmission has now been well documented for many of human viruses classified in six viral families. Recently, several evidences have indicated emerging viruses in seven other viral families with potential for water-borne transmission. The key challenge in the field of environmental virology has been how to assess and control the virological contaminants in different types of water. Thus, this book focuses mainly on the assessment of human viruses in water using different characterization platforms with highlighting of the merits, and demerits of each. Moreover, this book describes aspects of the control strategies of human viruses in water including water treatment processes, increasing public awareness, improvement of epidemiological studies, prevention of viral diseases transmitted by water, and application of one-health concept.
