This study aims at investigating the translation of humorous chunks in English comic films subtitled and dubbed into Persian to find whether or not the humorous chunks travel across languages, here English to Persian, in ordr to identify the types of translation strategies applied to transfer the humorous chunks of films and to detect the most frequently used translation strategies and to discover the most successful audiovisual method in rendering humorous chunks. To achieve these objectives, humorous chunks of the films were classified according to Martinez' taxonomy of humor (2005), which are, Community and Institution based humor, Community-Sense of humor, Linguistic based humor, Visual humor, Graphic humor, Paralinguistic humor, Sound based humor, and Non-Marked humor. The data were gathered from three American films; The Mask, Dumb & Dumber and Shrek which were dubbed and subtitled into Persian. To gather the data, the humorous chunks were extracted. Then, the corresponding Persian translations, both in dubbed and subtitled versions, were identified, compared and contrasted with their original version to discover the translation strategies used in both versions.
