The kharlands are unsuitable for conventional agriculture due to saline condition but these areas have great potential for their use in aquaculture. Production of aquaculture crop from these areas with desirable levels of survival and yield will require the suitable species and culture technology. Therefore, this study has been taken up in order to understand the hydrobiological characteristics of the ponds in kharland area for the standardization of culture technology and to assess their prawn culture potential.
