I am Susi Suitcase

Hello. My name is Susi Suitcase. Yes, I am a suitcase and, I am the narrator of all those stories bags and suitcases could tell you. I wish you lots of fun reading those stories in my book.

Susi Suitcase is the narrator of all the stories in this book. She has very many friends who are all different sorts of bags, who have travelled the world and experienced unique situations which Susi has collected. She invites you, the reader, to think about which bags you have and what stories you think your bags might tell. Susi also lets each bag tell us what name they have chosen for themselves and why and what its particular name means. All the bags even explain what cultures their name comes from. Susi invites the reader to use their fantasy to think about what friendship means and how to live tolerance. The stories give interesting information about the countries the bags are from and are fun to read. In the end Susi Suitcase tells us a bit about her history too and, why she gathered her friends' stories. In a note to parents and teachers the author explains what her motivation was for writing this book. Her upbringing was multicultural and bilingual which influenced her choice in becoming an English teacher and so she has worked in a community college in Germany as well as at the German Embassy School in Beijing, China for over 30 years.

Helen Stoemmer is a German and American citizen who was born in Bengasi, Libya in 1959. Her parents emigrated to the US from Germany in the early 1950s and so she speaks English and German fluently. After graduating from highschool in Hong Kong and having German roots, Helen moved to Germany where she studied Psychology at American universities in Heidelberg and Munich. In 1991 she started working as a free-lance teacher at the Community College of Moosburg where she teaches English as a foreign language at all levels of English to adults. At the end of 2006 the whole family moved to Beijing, China where she worked at the German Embassy School for seven years. In 2016 she returned to Germany, but continues to travel among worlds.
