Iconographic analysis of stained glass
Details
The stained glass windows can be seen in several cathedrals, in addition to different artistic styles previously used as a means of evangelization through images to illiterate people, ie the Bible of the poor, now can be of support for mass or be considered a piece of art more. However, the stained glass windows of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of La Paz located in the Plaza Murillo in the city of La Paz, even being inside a building that is historical heritage, these are not valued and people do not take into account, the stained glass windows of the Metropolitan Cathedral even have their history embodied in the largest behind the altar, in three phases, are also present the four gospels, Virgins, among others that still have no study. In this research we propose to perform the iconographic analysis of the stained glass windows as an instrument to interpret and understand the visual message of the sixteen chosen windows, in order to perform the analysis we will apply the methodology of Erwin Panofsky to understand the visual message of each window and answer the research question posed by the interpretation of the stained glass windows.
