The Common Idia, Powdered Snout or Waved Tabby (Idia aemula) is a moth of the Noctuidae family. It is found from Canada south to Florida and Texas and in most of Eurasia. The wingspan is 20-30 mm. In North America, adults are on wing from May to October in the north and from April to November in the south. There are two to three generations per year.The larvae feed on dead leaves.A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
