The book is an attempt to explore the image of family in the select works of Shashi Deshpande. It explores the family in conservative context and critically analyze the novels viz., In the Country of Deceit and Strangers to Ourselves. Deshpande stressed in her novels on the issues like the institution of family in conservative societies and the changing role of women and differing images of family. Woman is subjected to subjugation due to patriarchic and dogmatic values. Beside woman play a vital role in transforming the family by restructuring and establishing a new type of relationship.
