Images of Madness in Saul Bellow's Henderson the Rain King and Herzog

This book argues that Herzog's and Henderson's madness is nothing but the wisdom of unrecognized intellectuals. These protagonists are ostracized from the center of modern American society. They are marginalized, forgotten and faded away from the public's attention. Yet, being possessors of European high culture and deeply immersed in European liberal education, namely, in humanities, they survive to subvert and deconstruct the amoral ethics of post-industrial American society.
