this is a very good and thoroughly written PhD thesis which will represent another important corner stone for the University of Otago. I do recommend that this excellent work will be placed on the Divisional List of exceptional PhD theses. TOMAS ALBREKTSSON, Professor in Department of Biomaterial Research, The Sahlgrenska Academy at Göteborg University, Göteborg, Sweden. The work that has been performed is immense. In the mean time 3 systematic reviews taken from the work presented in Chapter 2 have already been published and much acclaimed and referred already in scientific papers. Additionally, 2 papers presenting the original research work have already been published and I am convinced more will follow because the research criteria that were applied are internationally accepted and of high standard.
