Immigrants have always played an important role in the UnitedStates economy. The purpose of this book was to examine theadaptation of Arab immigrants and refugees who left their countriesdue to the invasion of Kuwait on August 2, 1990 and resettled inthe Tri-county of Greater Metropolitan Detroit (Wayne, Macomb, andOakland) between 1990 and 2000. The present research appliedappropriate approaches, principles, and findings of previousresearch to clarify the degree to which Arab immigrants andrefugees have adjusted to the new environment in the aftermath ofthe Gulf War. This research examined major factors that impactedimmigrants and refugees? adaptation to the Detroit labor marketconditions, their satisfaction with their lives in the UnitedStates, and their integration into mainstream society. Economicadaptation is considered one aspect - albeit an important one - oftheir integration in the larger society.
