Impact of an early stimulation program
Details
Children's health constitutes one of the priorities of society, not only in the absence of diseases but also in all the determinants. According to estimates, more than 11 million children die before reaching 5 years of age; and more than 8 million infants die during their first year of life presenting rates ranging from 6.9 x 1000 live births in developed countries to 106.2 x 1000 live births in developing countries. Low birth weight (LBW) is the most important predictor of infant mortality because of its association with increased mortality risk. Globally, it is estimated that 1 in 6 children are born with low birth weight, with an estimated rate of 17% worldwide. Early stimulation allows the health professional to perform actions with children with neurodevelopmental disorders or at risk of suffering them, and thus reduce the incidence of these.
