Impact of environmental chemicals on Fetal birth weight

One of the most challenging obstetric problems is intrauterine fetal growth retardation (IUGR). However, the majority of cases are idiopathic Environmental toxins are claimed to play a causative role. This study explores the possible role of some heavy metals and aflatoxins. Apoptosis as a mechanism by which these chemicals might influence fetal growth was evaluated .The results are alarming. There is a need for global action.
