Impact of Productive Safety Net Program on Assets and Consumption

The global focus has been on food security and poverty alleviation in response to the increasing food insecurity and poverty in the world. These incidences are high in developing countries. Realizing the magnitude and severity of the food insecurity problems, nations of the world launches different means of poverty alleviation programs. Productive Safety Net Program (PSNP) is among them adopted by the Ethiopian government. The study has tried to evaluate the impact of PSNP on rural households' assets protection and consumption. It uses Propensity Score Matching (PSM) techniques to analysis the objectives. Study results indicate that the program has positive and significant impact on household asset protection. Moreover, the program has positive and significant impact on food and total consumption expenditure per adult equivalent. In general, it is possible to conclude that PSNP has substantial positive impact on rural household consumption expenditure and asset protection.
