Recovery High Schools are designed for students committed to achieving success in both education and substance abuse recovery. This qualitative study examines recovery school effectiveness in terms of student and faculty perceptions, using interviews, focus groups, and student records examination. Using a grounded theory and case study approach, the research provides surprising and critical findings for developing and sustaining a successful recovery school.

Dr. Barbara Wornson has received academic degrees from the University of Iowa, the University of Kansas, the University of Minnesota, and the University of St. Thomas where she received her Doctorate. She has served as a Teacher, School Psychologist, Principal, and Executive Director. Dr. Wornson is the former Director of Sobriety High School.
