Impact of Urbanization on Sustainability of Cities

Nowadays, sustainable development is a common goal for regional development around the world. With fast economic development, most developing countries have experienced rapid urbanization process, which has exerted comprehensive impact on social-economical development, and changed the pattern, composition and urban landscape of cities significantly. Therefore, it is of great importance to understand relationships between urban landscape dynamics and social-economical development, and to assess the impact of urbanization on sustainability of cites. For the purpose of promoting sustainable development of cities, we should scientifically direct urban development planning, rationally develop policies, laws and regulations, and take targeted measurements to guarantee the implementation of these plans and polices with better understanding of correlations between urbanization and sustainability of cities.

Obtained Ph.D. in ecology from the Northwest A&F University, and served as post-doctoral fellow in the School of Economics and Finance, Xi'an Jiaotong University. He is now assistant research fellow in Northwest Institute of Historical Environment and Socio-Economic Development, Shaanxi Normal University.
