Implant Protected Occlusion

The key to the success of the implants is "IMPLANT PROTECTIVE OCCLUSION". Implant-protected occlusion is an occlusal plan which is designed to provide longevity to the implant as well as the prosthesis. Biomechanical principles which reduce the forces at the bone-implant interface form the basis of this concept. This book elaborates on the ideological concepts of implant occlusion, its rationale and its biomechanical perspective. A minor error in diagnosis & treatment planning leads to porcelain fracture, un-retained prosthesis, abutment screw loosening and implant component fracture. The choice of occlusal scheme is very broad and controversial and it has been proven that the clinical success and longevity of implants depend on the selection of a proper occlusal scheme. Towards the end, we will gather a lot of information on how occlusion schemes should be selected and how the occlusal anatomy should be formed for a successful implant prosthesis. Implants are different in their load-bearing capacity as compared to natural teeth. The occlusion planned should maximize the occlusal functions and minimize harm to opposing and adjacent teeth.
