Implant Supported Overdenture

The goal of modern dentistry is to restore normal contour, function, comfort, esthetics, speech, and health, regardless of the atrophy, disease, or injury of the stomatognathic system. Implant prosthodontics today has set the trend for the boom in practice tomorrow. Overdentures supported by implant are comparatively a new arrival in prosthodontics. Prosthodontist around the world now consider and are trying to develop implant supported overdenture therapy as a new standard of service to edentulous patients. Implant supported overdenture has been proven to be more effective than any other treatment modalities as compared to fixed partial denture, when survival of abutment is considered. Together with all persons involved in implantology, we must remain convinced that in the ongoing pursuit of reliable outcome measures, our profession must not lose sight of the ultimate goal - enriching the patient's quality of life. Our endeavor must be to give a prosthesis that is esthetic, well functioning, comfortable and long lasting.Keeping all this in mind, let us not forget the Buddha's words,'The greatest purpose of life is to make something that will outlast us'.
