Improve Protein Content in the Cell Wall of the Kenaf Fibers
Details
Kenaf fibers can be used in wide range of textile and engineering applications. Researchers over the world spent a lot of efforts to find the best ways to improve quality and quantity of this crop. In 26 September 2013, seeds of two new kenaf varieties: Fuhong-952 (FH-952) and 4383 were planted at Taman Pertanian Universiti (TPU), at the Universiti Putra Malaysia. For the first time, macronutrient and micronutrients at different concentrations were applied to investigate their effects on the nitrogen content (protein) in the cell wall of the fiber, and then to know its effect on the quality and quantity properties. This book presents an innovative view on the effect of these nutrients of the quality production of the kenaf fibers. Results from this book show that the nitrogen content (protein) in the cell wall of the kenaf fibers could increase by adding fertilizers especially potassium. Besides, other goal to this book is to show that the change of the protein average in the cell wall of kenaf fibers can be regarded as a key to do more researching in the future.
