Alexia L. Jones was in her early stages of recoveryfrom an addiction to powder cocaine when shediscovered the healing power of Christian-baseddance. In 1995 Jones, a former professional dancer,began using dance as a personal, physical expressionof worship. During her private, daily process ofprayer and praise and worship of God through dance,Jones learned that her dancing encouraged hersobriety. Her continued abstinence from drugs was aby product of her dancing which fostered spiritual,physiological and psychological healing. Shecredited dance, under girded by her faith in God, asthe tool that sustained her. The Beracha DanceInstitute was born out of her revelatory experiencesconcerning the healing power of worshipful dance.Jones' simple act of allowing other women toparticipate in her process of worship led to theinadvertent development of a therapeutic danceapplication that proved beneficial to women in recovery.

Elizabeth Delancy, MFA, PhD, was awarded a prestigious McKnight Doctoral Fellowship for her studies in the Humanities at Florida State University. In addition to her scholarly pursuits, she has worked professionally as a dancer with Urban Bush Women, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Dance and Humanities at Tallahassee Community College.
