This, the first volume of 'In the Hands of Design Minds' is an examination of design and creativity throughout education and industry using the theme of transition to understand and explore the movement from tertiary education to the professional world with an extensive examination of the framework conditions that exist in both the educational and vocational environments, from both private and governmental sources. With the further aim to explore the broader context of socioeconomic relations and social institutional performance. The socioeconomic and cultural significance of design, innovation and creativity are intricately argued from an international and comprehensive range of case studies, as used throughout to provide support and reference. The work also endeavors to take into account and explore the wider educational and vocational spectrum. By examining and questioning traditional university learning structures as compared to the potentials of long distance, self paced learning and propositions to multidisciplinary education and vocation, while acknowledging the relevance of lifelong learning throughout personal and professional environments and livelihood.

Jason McDermott is a Graphic Designer with an Hons Degree in Visual Communication from the National College of Art and Design, Dublin Ireland. Aswell being a writer in subjects of Art, Design and Social science.
