India s Foreign Policy towards Indonesia not only reflects warmth in bilateral relations, but it also indicates positive change in India s perception of the region. India s policies towards Southeast Asia not only reflect the change that has taken place in India s perception of the region, it also reflects the transformation of international relations in the contemporary world of globalisation.The present Thesis seeks to highlight various dimensions of India-Indonesia close political relations during the Nehru period to the present strategic engagement that have evolved during 1991-2008, since the end of the Cold War era and subsequent announcement of India s Look East Policy. The end of the Cold War coincided with Narsimha Rao s Prime Ministers -hip in 1991. India s response to new environment resulted in close ties between India and Southeast Asia with India becoming a dialogue partner of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995 and subsequently a member of ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in 1996. Interaction through these regional bodies further strengthened the bilateral relations between India and Indonesia.
