Asthma morbidity and mortality are on the rise. The increaseof asthma in the pediatric setting is startling. Asthma is noted tohave a higher prevalence in minority and low- income individualscompared with their more advantaged peers. With this increase inasthma morbidity and mortality in Hispanic children the health careprofession is left with the task of identifying exacerbatingfactors. Research studies have lacked in identifying social factorswhich may contribute to this startling trend. This study identifiednumerous barriers, both intrinsic and extrinsic to the health caresystem which are found to contribute to this rise in asthma ratesin Hispanic children.
