Astourism is still an emerging profession, careers haveyet to be clearly defined and career paths are noteasily identifiable. It is therefore useful toexplore the issues which are important for those whoare currently in the tourism workforce and for thosewho plan to undertake careers in tourism. It isclear that the role of formal education andon-the-job training is important and the need tochange job, organisation, industry or geographicallocation is also influential on the development of acareer in tourism.
