Information practices of Cameroonian students

This book examines the online information access practices of students. It describes their process of accessing information on the Internet. The environment chosen is the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences et Techniques de l'information et de la communication (ESSTIC). The main objective is to understand the uses that are made of documentary techniques in the process of searching for information on the Internet by these students.This work is theoretically anchored in constructivism, sociology of uses and the user-oriented paradigm. Our methodological approach is based on a quantitative survey by questionnaire. The analysis of the results of the survey shows that the students have very inefficient research strategies. The same results highlight the fact that training in information retrieval is necessary to accompany students in the process of accessing information. The results also show that there is a kind of gab or gap between the acquired practices and those developed from personal experiences in information retrieval.
