Integrating EU Migration Policy into the European Neighbourhood Policy
Details
The Treaty on European Union, the Amsterdam Treaty, the Tampere and the Hague Programmes have laid down the legal and policy framework of EU migration policy. The working agenda includes illegal migration, smuggling and trafficking in human beings, readmission, return, border management and other issues. These priorities have been integrated into a new EU external relation policy - the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). The ENP promotes dialog and cooperation between the EU and the surrounding countries. The ENP was established in 2003, and it attracted immediate attention of scholars who have analysed and discussed different aspects and prospects. This book is intended to contribute to the discussion. I pose the following questions: (1) how, when and why was migration policy integrated into the ENP, (2) what are the objectives, and challenges; (3) what are the financial instruments; and (4) what are the prospects. This book will be of interest to students of European studies and professionals concerned with EU migration policy.
