Intelligent Platform Management Controller for ATCA Carrier Boards

The Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture (ATCA) specification describes one of the most recent open architectures dedicated to delivering high performance computations equipment. It ensures high level of reliability and system availability (up to 99.999%). It also supports high speed communication protocols such as PCI-Express (PCIe) or Gigabit Ethernet (GbE). Furthermore, it offers modularity allowing for flexible system configuration and facilitating its maintenance and service. The book presents the results of work on the development of firmware for Intelligent Platform Management Controller (IPMC) for an ATCA Carrier Board. The innovative character of the described solution emerges from the application of microcontroller dedicated for communication applications to the role of the IPMC. The firmware presented in the book is a suitable basis for development of further IPMC functionalities and it can be easily adapted for diverse types of the ATCA Carrier Boards.

Piotr Perek received the MSc degree in the field of Electronics and Telecommunications at the Technical University of Lodz in 2010. He continues his education as a PhD student. His interests include embedded systems and programmable devices. His research concerns the development of control and data acquisition systems based on xTCA standards.
