PMSM motors are becoming popular in the industrial design of white good appliances. Anyway, their control has to take account one the most peculiar aspect that regards the design of electronic control systems: the thermal management. In this book, the design of control systems for electrical drives is presented, the concepts regarding the static and dynamic thermal characteristics of intelligent power modules (IPMs), commonly used in PMSM control, are examined and the thermal design for heat dissipation in IPMs is illustrated.

Giuseppe Attilio Laudani earned his Master's degree in Microelectronic Engineering at the University of Catania, Italy in 2012. He's currently studying towards a Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Imperial College London, UK. His research topics are DC distribution systems (LVDC) and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT)
