Introduction to Statistics

The purpose of this book is to present some of the basic concepts and methods of statistics in a clear and understandable manner. The level is appropriate to students with a limited mathematical background. Because statistics allows us to use data to gain insight into a problem, we emphasize understanding rather than mastering statistical technique. This book is organized in 13 chapters under the following topics: Introduction, Frequency distribution and graphs, Data description, Probability and probability distributions, Sampling and sampling distributions, Estimation and hypothesis testing, Simple correlation and regression, Non-parametric statistics, Index numbers, Chi-square test and Introduction to analysis of variance. This text book is intended for undergradute students of various diciplines. However, it can also be used by graduate students and researchers.

Currently, he is an assistant professor at Bahir Dar University, giving courses in Advanced Biometrics/Plant Breeding for graduate students.
