Introductory Plant Morphology

Plant Morphology or phytomorphology represents a study of the development, form and structure of plants. Botanists use morphological traits of plants that can be compared, measured and described to assess the similarities or dissimilarities among plant taxa and use these character states in plant identification, classification and even in morphological cladistics. The biologists interested in evolution rely on the morphologists to interpret structures and in turn provide phylogenies of plant relationships that may lead to new insights.
